Kalli and her family vacationed in the Rhode Island area in September. They were searching for quintessential New England locations for their third maternity session. Wind is something we always have to contend with being a coastal area. I really like to have a safe location that is shady and sheltered from strong winds before heading to the ocean. It might be a beautiful, sunny cloudless day but with strong, steady winds, our session will not be as successful as it should be. This particular photoshoot proves my point exactly. The wind was so strong, we could barely stand out by the water. We were able to capture a really stunning image of Kalli with her gown blowing in the wind. If we did not have the first location to lean on, we would have needed to leave the ocean location immediately upon arrival and find another spot that day. This was all avoided by first using a safe location and having a good plan in place.
We started the session at South County Museum in Narragansett. A lovely historic farm type of area with an old stone building covered in Boston Ivy and no roof. SCM needs to be rented and reserved in advance. Current rental as of 2023 is $150. I love using this location in the Fall with the ivy turning bright red and the oaks go yellow. Private, pet friendly, bathrooms available and ample parking. Bonus: it’s right down the street from a gorgeous ocean location with breathtaking views of the water, crashing waves, rocks and public access. The combination of historic architecture coupled with seaside vistas cannot be beat!
