Part Two of Parissa & Michael’s wedding features the ceremony and reception. Here is where the bride’s cultures are highlighted in the sofreh (Persian wedding table or “spread”) and the Chinese dragon dancers. Dynamic and diverse!
Everything on the sofreh has a special meaning and is there for a reason. Some of the many items are a mirror, candelabra, eggs, gold coins, seven colored threads, seven spices, honey and much, much more. During a traditional Persian wedding ceremony, the women of the family rub sugar over the couple to wish them a sweet life. Tooreh Ghand (Sugar Cloth) is a fine fabric which is held over the couple’s head throughout the ceremony by happily married female relatives and friends. Parissa changed into a red reception dress. A nod to her Chinese heritage. Chinese Dragon Dancers wowed the crowd with an impressive stunts and moving drum beats. Capturing a traditional Chinese Dragon Dance was on my “wedding photographer bucket list”. I’ve been so eager for this for so many years. I will never forget this moment and I’m so thrilled to have documented this. Parissa and Mike were an absolute joy to work for. It was an honor!
